What are the policies for late Interlibrary Loan (ILL) returns?
Answer
ILL materials must be returned by the due date.
- The lending library may charge a replacement fee plus a processing fee. We do not have control over how much the lending library will charge. This could range from $20-$500.
- Customers will be notified
- Three days after due date – Automatic overdue email notice from the library system
- One week after due date – Overdue email notice from ILL staff
- Three weeks after due date – Overdue email notice from ILL staff
- Four weeks after due date –
- Automatic overdue email notice from the library system that indicates Assumed Lost item status and $150 replacement fee
- Overdue email notice from ILL staff that indicates Blocked ILL status
- An automatic replacement fee of $150 will be charged to the customer’s library account four weeks after the due date. This amount will change based on what the lending library ultimately decides to charge. Once we know what the lending library will charge, ILL staff will change the amount in the customer’s library account.
- The customer’s library user account will be in Blocked status due to the $150 fee, and they will be prevented from using ILL, checking out library materials, renewing library materials, and placing holds on library materials. Blocked status applies to both the user’s library account and ILL account.
- Once we know what the lending library will charge, ILL staff will change the amount in the customer’s library account. If the new amount causes the customer to owe less than $45 or have less than 10 items overdue, the Blocked account status will be removed.
- Returning the item or paying the lost item fee will cause the Blocked status to be removed from both the library account and the ILL account.
- Customers who fail to return ILL items and fail to respond to ILL staff about the issue will be barred from use of ILL.
- We do not accept replacement copies in lieu of payment.
