What are the policies for damaged Interlibrary Loan (ILL) materials?
Answer
ILL materials must be returned in the same condition as they were received.
- Depending on the level of damage, customers who damage ILL items may have to pay a replacement fee.
- Replacement fees are determined by the lending library. We do not have control over how much the lending library will charge. Replacement fees could range from $20-$500.
- If the customer does not pay the replacement fee, and the fee is more than $45, their library account will be in Blocked status and they will be prevented from using ILL, checking out library materials, renewing library materials, and placing holds on library materials. Blocked status applies to both the user’s library account and ILL account.
- Paying the replacement fee will cause the Blocked status to be removed from both the library account and the ILL account.
- Customers who fail to pay the replacement fee and fail to respond to ILL staff about the issue will be permanently barred from use of ILL.
- We do not accept replacement copies in lieu of payment.
